Cypress Art League Meetings Return to the Community Center

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE ~~ January 2012

Life passes in a blink of an eye. I can't believe it's January 2012. I hope your holiday season was rewarding and pray for a prosperous 2012.

Jack King will talk in January on "Michelangelo: The Great One - What We Don't Know". Come join us as Jack paints a mental picture of the artist's like unfolding before our eyes. Each session has been unforgettable.

We have February workshop with Tome Fong. I will demonstrate animal portraits in May. If you haven't signed up, there is still time at the meeting. Workshops are held at the Community Center form 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Lunch is from Katella Deli, which tops off the day.

Also, if you are interested at all in Plein Air excursions, have we got a doozy -- a weekend trip to Catalina to paint for photograph on site, including accomodations and a wine&cheese reception. We plan this function for sometime in the Spring. Come to our January meeting to hear more details.

Our meetings are open to the public, and you need not be a member to participate, be members get advance notice through our newsletters and emails. We encourage membership to help perpetuate the visual arts, painting, photography, and 3D art. We thrive by supporting members' art and providing grants to art/photo students at Cypress Community College. We have openings on the league's Board of Directors. If you have time, please consider volunteering. Let any Board member know at the meeting is this is a possibility. When you serve on the board, you get free membership for each year of service.

MESSAGE from the MEMBERSHIP Chair

Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone is having a creative and successful 2012!

A little housekeeping is in order as we kick off a new season ... we've been working hard to update our membership database, making sure that everyone on our mailing list is a current member.

As much as we'd like to continue mailing to everyone in our original list , our organization also needs to spend its resources wisely. Regretfully, those who may have forgotten to pay their membership dues over the past year will be dropped from our database after this month.

We have so many exciting presenters scheduled for 2012, our two juried shows, having the opportunity to connect with fellow artists in our community-- we know you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun! So, please take a moment and fill out the membership form (see our flier or click here). Mail it in with your dues or bring it with you to the next meeting, and you won't miss a thing! After all, your support and participation is what make the Cypress Art League such a vibrant, strong organization.

We look forward to seeing you in 2012.

Hedi Roethel, Membership Chair

the Cypress Art League

The Cypress Art League is a non-profit organization located in Cypress, California. It was incorporated in 1969 to promote understanding and enjoyment of the arts among the citizens of the communities represented. Members include artists of all mediums, photographers, and patrons of the arts.

Meetings are held at regular intervals as announced on this website. Nationally acclaimed artists lecture and demonstrate their art during these meetings. Visitors are always welcome and are encouraged to join in the many events sponsored throughout the year.

Members bring examples of their art for judging at the general meetings and the winning entries are displayed on this website.

Open juried art shows are held twice a year during community art events. Prize money is awarded in numerous categories and artists are acknowledged at a public awards presentation.

The Art League currently supports and assists the city in scheduling and exhibiting art in the Cypress Community Center Art Gallery. These shows feature local artists' work, and are available to the public, free of charge.

All-inclusive tours of local museums and cultural events are offered throughout the year. It is our aim to provide first-class service at affordable prices. See our TOURS page on this website for currently planned tours.

Plein-Air painting excursions to local coastal areas, nature parks, and scenic vistas are scheduled six times a year. Member artists are always on-site and available to offer advice, critique others' work, and have a good time in general.

To encourage the study of the arts, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled full-time in fine arts and photography at the Cypress Community College. Also, many member artists assist local primary and secondary schools with their art programs.
